Psychiatric Evaluation
The Psychiatric consultant will be available five hours
weekly, will participate in treatment team meetings, sign treatment plans and
will conduct medical/psychiatric evaluations as needed. The purpose of a
psychiatric evaluation is to determine the existence of psychiatric conditions
which would impede substance abuse treatment or to determine the need for
ancillary psychiatric treatment or to determine the need for psychotropic
medications. ARA recognizes that most substance abuse treatment must take place
with the client in a drug-free state, but also realizes that some persons who
seek treatment may also have psychiatric conditions that require a long term
medical regimen.
