Adult Services

Mental Health Assessment:
Services always begin with a complete individual assessment. This may take one to three sessions and includes information from an interview with the client and often the family or significant others, referring parties or physician, and other involved agencies, with permission from the client. The assessment helps identify the client's concerns and strengths and determines whether clinic treatment or another service is the best course. Following the completion of the assessment phase, a treatment plan is completed jointly with the therapist and signed by the client. The clinic serves the full range of psychiatric diagnostic problems including depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, personality and adjustment disorders.

Individual Therapy:
Our most common treatment method is individual counseling with a mental health professional. This therapy is solution-focused and client-centered. Talking about the problems is often the first step towards improvement. Over time talk therapy has been shown to reduce distress and symptoms. Therapy helps with coping skills and determines strategies for managing emotional upheaval and conflicted relationships. It can also identify resources (reading materials or self help groups, for example) which can help address problem areas. Most treatment is short-term, although long-term care is also available when needed.

Family (Collateral) Involvement:
Many behavioral problems are most successfully treated by including concerned family members or other significant members of the client support system. With permission, some sessions may include a spouse, parent or larger family group. Such sessions help family members understand what clients are going through and identify how they can help. They also give families a chance to improve communications or work out difficulties in relationships, which may be affecting progress.

Psychiatric and Medication Services:
Consultations with clinic psychiatrists are available when needed. In some instances, medication is an important or even crucial part of treatment. Monitoring of psychiatric medication occurs through clinic psychiatrists and/or nursing staff, or at times through the client's personal physician.

Case Management Services:
The clinic has access to both an intensive case manager (for a limited number of seriously ill clients who have special needs to maintain stability), and a regular case manager for others needing help with advocacy, linkage, and monitoring. Referrals to these services are through the assigned therapist at the clinic.

MICA (Mentally Ill / Chemical Abuse) Services:
For those experiencing both mental illness and a substance abuse problem, our MICA service includes evaluation, group therapy in three phases, plus individual, family or case management treatment as required. This is an integrated program staffed by a MSW and CASAC professional trained in both mental health and chemical dependency treatment.

Sex Offender Services:
Specialized groups, and where appropriate, individual and family sessions, are available. Referrals may be made through the clinic's Warsaw number.
