Mission Statement: New Horizons Continuing Day Treatment Program
is a collection of mental health and integrated human services designed to serve
Allegany County adult consumers with severe and persistent mental illness. The
program is committed to the recognition of consumer rights and their unique
individual needs, to the active participation of consumers in their individual
treatment and rehabilitation plans, and to the convictions to encourage and
assist consumers to reach their highest possible level of independence, while
providing for and insuring support for safety and personal growth.
Support Services
New Horizons is designed to assist adults and their support systems in
dealing with psychiatric illnesses. Treatment consists of structured
re-education discussion groups, loosely structured conversation groups, group
psychotherapy, periods of informal social interaction, one-to-one and/or group
modeling/role playing exercises, one-to-one and/or group community orientation
exercises, activity therapy and social skill building activities. Consumers are
strongly encouraged to play an active role in the development and evaluation of
their program services.
Case Management Services
Case management services are those activities that link the consumer to the
service system and coordinate the provision of service. The objective of case
management is continuity of care and service in the community. Case management
activities include referring consumers to all required services as specified in
the treatment plan. Case Managers also advocate, which is the process of
interceding on behalf of the consumer to assure access to required services.
Transportation
A coordinated system of transportation exists for consumers enrolled in
programming and ARA has committed vital resources to this task.
